A fire protection system is a network of equipment and procedures for detecting, controlling, and
extinguishing fires to ensure life safety and minimize property damage.
FDAS: Fire detection and alarm system
The Fire Detection and Alarm System (FDAS) provides audible and visual alerts to occupants to initiate and aid evacuation when smoke, fire, or other hazardous conditions are detected. It often includes smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual pull stations, and notification appliances. The different types of fire alarm systems are conventional, addressable, and semi-addressable.
Sprinkler system
Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems are automated fire suppression devices designed to detect and control fires at an early stage. They release a stream of water in predetermined spray patterns and density to control the spread of fire. The water is distributed through piping, typically installed overhead, with sprinklers placed at regular intervals. When a fire is detected, the sprinkler system activates, releasing water to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from spreading.
Standpipe system
Standpipe systems are fixed piping systems that transport water from a reliable water source to areas of buildings where hoses can be deployed for firefighting, saving firefighters time and energy by eliminating the need for long and cumbersome hose lays. They are typically installed in well-protected, safe areas where firefighters can access them safely, such as fire exit staircases and building entrances.
